Why I Ride

I have visited the Children's Hospital on a few occasions and all I can say is it's a special place. What makes it so special? It's a place dedicated to giving kids and parents hope. I don't know about you, but I don't think there can be very many higher callings than lending a hand when others are in need and laying the groundwork for hope.

Last year I had the opportunity see the fruits of that groundwork we laid. At one of the rest stops I talked at length with the mother of a child patient at Children's. Her daughter was overcoming a profound illness. Her mother was proud to say that her daughter was on the course and riding up Vail Pass on a tandem bicycle with her father. She did this with an oxygen container strapped to back of the bike and frankly with a bike that was pretty clunky and heavy.

Her mother was very thankful that we were riding and a bit overcome by the concept that so many people made donations. Moreover she saw her daughter's ride up Vail pass as part of her recovery. She said it was bringing out the positive aspects of her daughter's personality that had been missing for the past couple of months and wanted me to encourage them when I saw them.

Of course I did encourage them. Nice folks.

I hope you can give this year. 100% of the funds we collected goes to the Children's Hospital and this is one place where your money does make a difference.

Why I Support The Children's Hospital

Sonja was born in November 2008 with complex heart and digestive issues. Her parents founded Sonja’s Soldiers in her honor because, thanks to Children’s, baby Sonja is growing up – one day at a time.

Spencer was struck by a car while riding his bike when he was 6 years old. With Children’s help, he fought severe head injuries to become the healthy teen – and strong rider – he is today.

Nick was diagnosed with Leukemia when he was 5 years old. His parents founded Team Nickcycle to support Children’s for providing him with the best possible treatment.

Ellaura rides to give back, she says. Now healthy and active at 17, she has been a neurology patient at Children’s since she was 4 years old.
